Hector Ruben McGurk was sentenced to life in prison in March of 2007 for a non-violent cannabis offense in Victorville, California. During the soft launch of Cookies grand opening, we had the pleasure of meeting his family who was fighting for his bail.
Berner has teamed up with Last Prisoner Project to launch ‘Release Papers’ to advocate on people who are imprisoned for nonviolent cannabis-related convictions.
Hector is one of many men who sit in a cell based off a crime people create businesses off of. That is one of the many goals Release Papers hopes to reach to younger audiences to educate people on injustice in our judicial system.
Hectors family is at 25,000 signatures. His family has said they are almost at the goal reaching 15,000.
